I have done all my picture research and read all the info available for these pictures and it seems that you are absolutely right so i will id these pictures as Auricularia subglabra.

Thank you so much for the information provided it helped me decide and id this species. Now I have over 200 pictures to double check to continue my research.

Hi Dulce,

Certainly all of these are the same species. The last 3 pics are all the same, and it is likely that the first pic is the same species but a different collection and color variant.

I am confident that these represent Auricularia subglabra given their mostly smooth non-fertile surface, maze-like fertile surface, and location in the type locality that A. subglabra was described from. There are two other known entities in the Auricularia delicata group from North American, but both species have pubescent or minutely hairy non-fertile surfaces. Also, neither have been confirmed from Costa Rica.

The real Auricularia delicata is described from Africa and likely does not occur in North America.

according to my books on mushrooms of Costa Rica it could be delicata. My question is, are all the pix from the same species or am I mixing species?

Thanks so much for your help.

Gracias / Thanks

I am starting to love mushrooms but there are so many of them that look alike or that are not on my books. Thanks so much for helping me id some of them.
