Several scattered clusters on ground under hardwoods, primarily Oak, Hickory, Cottonwood forest. Flattened, fused branches growing from a thick stalk. Flesh is extremely tough (very hard to cut with my sharp pocket knife)and cartilaginous. Ages quickly to a dingy yellowish-buff color.
