Observation 206746: Psathyrella (Fr.) Quél.

When: 2015-06-15

Collection location: Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]

Who: Dave W (Dave W)

No specimen available

Thought this was a Psathyrella, but the spores look more like Coprinellus. No cystidia found.

Gill material included cells/structures seen in second micro.

A non-trivial percentage of spores appear to lack the black pigment seen in most. Mounted in Congo red.

Landscaped area with woodchips.

The name is my best attempt for the Psaths I found today (obs 250301) based on gross macromorphology and habitat. I have 0 prior experience with/knowledge about the taxon, but your obs reminds me a lot of mine. If you pursue it further I’d very very much like to see your results.

I had not previously noticed…

the high confidence proposal from Byrain. Otherwise, I would have followed up with a question or two. The subsect. Obtusatae proposal provides a little more focus.
