Recognized by sight: Ganoderma lucidum sensu stricto is absent in North America. This is likely Ganoderma tsugae growing on Hemlock. I am in the area and tsugae is verY prolific right now.

sensu stricto is also absent from North America being primarily isolated to Northern Europe.

Hardwood species in North America fall into other clades.

As it happens G.lucidum growing on hardwood in Europe is actually closer related to conifer species such as G.tsugae and G.oregonense than it is to other hardwood Ganoderma species that until recently were lumped in with G.lucidum. George Atkinson of Cornell actually considered G.tsugae to be a variety of G.lucdum. Which looks to be more accurate than later mycologists trying to split Ganoderma into a hardwood group and a conifer group, which does not really work.
