This observation refers to the yellowish lichen living on the thallus of Placynthium nigrum.
This was a mistery for me till quite recently when, by chance, I found something that maybe solves it: According to “CNALH” in the notes to the description of Candelariella dispersa the following is said:
“This species grows on humus and cspccially over thalli of Placynihium species, probably as a partial parasite.”
However, it is also said that “It is known from Scandinavia and from North America, where it ranges south to Wisconsin and to California in the West.”, and I’m far from these regions.
