Observation 207785: Suillus subaureus (Peck) Snell
When: 2015-06-24
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Growing in an area with mainly oak and other hardwoods. Hemlock on the other side of a stream. The stream runs year-round and supports a population of native trout. (Seems to me the roots would not grow underneath such a stream.) Some smallish hemlocks about 50 feet away on the same side of the stream.

Spore print reddish-brown.

Pores not radially arranged. Pore surface fairly bright orange.

Spores look to be in the 8-10 × 3-4 range, which agrees with the reported dimensions for S. subaureus.
