Observation 207987: Xerocomus campestris
When: 2015-06-26
No herbarium specimen

Notes: I don’t know why I bother posting these little guys from one of the most difficult bolete sections…
> Growing under a large pin oak and next to a couple of white pines.
> The stipe is more reddish on the bottom than the pic suggest.
> Bluing of the stipe upon handling was observed.
> The cut context barely stained blue above the tubes, at the juncture of stipe and cap, and on stipe edges. Staining was slow and erratic.
> KOH = rusty orange on cap and medium orange on context; NH4OH = bleaches the cap yellow; FeSO4 = dark brown on cap and olive-green on context.
> I didn’t see the carrot-orange granules in stipe context at the base.
