Notes: Medium size, brown cap, creamy lamellae, cap diameter 30-40mm,tough stalk, between poplar trees.

is extra large, thick, and ropey, Liz. I’ve seen nothing similar, except for Stropharia rugosa-annulata. Quite unusual in my experience.

taken from the base of the stipe? If so, that suggests the fungus is saprophytic, not mycorrhizal. But the cap and gills resemble Laccaria.
