Observation 208031: Boletus ananas M.A. Curtis
When: 2015-06-25
(10.1707° 84.288° 1800m)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Growing out of a roadside bank in recovering oak forest around 1850 meters in low montane cloud forest. Very impressive overhanging and pointed cap margin. The cracked cap surface reminded me of Boletus chrysenteron with the pinky edges along the edges of the cracks and contrasting with the buffy cap color. Spore print dark brown, tubes olive/ochre, stem pale inside, turned a cerulean blue rapidly everywhere touched or cut, then brown.
Cap 15 cm wide
stem 10 cm above ground, red ring 3 cm at apex
June is in the rainy season in Costa Rica
