If that is the case, it’s very interesting. I have not previously seen a positive reaction to potassium hydroxide in a species of section Phalloideae with pigmentation in a phalloides-like pattern.
Did you keep a dried voucher from this collection?
It is interesting to see a color photo of the cap of Mexican material. The pigment has less brown in it than in material I saw fresh in Costa Rica. Twelve years ago, rather short sequences for nrITS and nrLSU genes were derived for Costa Rican material of A. arocheae. Do you know if sequences have been derived for the grayer Mexican material? I did not see a record posted in GenBank.
