The voracious local slugs and snails don’t seem interested in these at all.
It’s been about 5 years for me, so…
There’s a few patches on my property that produce throughout the summer/fall. If I find some perfect, firm, un-insect-chewed ones…
I imagine some people would dislike the slippery texture (I don’t mind), but I thought they tasted good. Not muddy at all! I sauteed them with butter and a bit of garlic salt.
I found these under the same ash tree as http://mushroomobserver.org/208301. I’ll check periodically for more. I want to try them in omelets and risotto.
I tried them I thought they tasted no better than mud.
I’ve tried meruloides a few times. Never ended up motivated to eat any more… well, at least not for another 5 years.
