Recognized by sight: Dark walnut brown cap, dark reddish stem
Based on microscopic features: Has small pleurocystidia and larger grey pseudocystidia. Cheilocystidia are lageniform and irregularly forked. Spores are more round than those of P. neoxalapensis and P. fagicola. Does not have any cylindrical cheilocystidia.
