Notes: Growing under Casuarina, July-noteable features-Striated cap margin, gills slightly attached to stem, stem yellowish, no ring present, volva present.

I never get tired of seeing this species. (Of course, I only see it on MO.)

The Australian literature suggests that there may be two or more taxa that are all called xanthocephala (or one of its synonyms), but have different shaped spores. This thought is discussed briefly on the Amanitaceae Studies website:
