Polyporus, something near badius. But without photos of hymenium difficult to be certain, Stephen. Generally a photo of the stipe, cap, and spore-producing surface all contribute to an accurate identification. My suggestion of Polyporus, for example, rests mostly on an apparent black stipe and apparent growth from a small branch.
Better to take too many photos than just a few. With many, many fungi sectioning the fungus is an excellent idea as well.
