Very nice picture! Sometimes this mushroom is very abundant here in the driftless (unglaciated) area of Wisconsin. It seems to like well-rotted logs in low lying areas.
Ahh yeah, I love these. Definitely one of the coolest looking mushrooms. I have seen a few finds posted in The Shroomery Hunting Forum.
They are less striking as they dry out, as the pileus begins to stretch and the ridges become less steep.
Said to be rare only one collection from WA state, one from Mnaitoba, and one from alberta canada according to Helene M.E.S.-B.
