Observation 210375: Amanita submaculata Peck

No herbarium specimen

Notes: Mixed woods… oak, hemlock, other hardwoods.

A. brunnescens look-alike, except stipe base lacks rigid bulb with vertical splits. (Although I failed to excavate the stipe base intact, it clearly lacked the typical brunnescens split bulb.)

Odor faint but pleasant, not of potatoes.
