Notes: Collected at the NJMA foray. Given the cap color at this stage of development, I would put my money on A. banningiana.

Thank you for commenting. The cap color in the pix is fairly accurate. I wouldn’t describe it as red, but rather deep orange-brown. That’s why I didn’t think it was jacksonii either… I have adjusted the vote on banningiana as per your analysis.

It looks like the cap is strongly red or red-orange.

If that is a correct perception, then this can’t be banningiana, which begins with a yellow cap that often become brown on the center. The absence of orange felted material on the stem makes me hesitate in assigning this collection to jacksonii.
