Observation 210726: Amanita sect. Caesareae Singer

When: 2015-07-18

Collection location: Meadowood Park, Mendham, New Jersey, USA [Click for map]

Who: I. G. Safonov (IGSafonov)

No specimen available

Collected at the NJMA foray. Given the cap color at this stage of development, I would put my money on A. banningiana.

Thank you for commenting. The cap color in the pix is fairly accurate. I wouldn’t describe it as red, but rather deep orange-brown. That’s why I didn’t think it was jacksonii either… I have adjusted the vote on banningiana as per your analysis.

It looks like the cap is strongly red or red-orange.

If that is a correct perception, then this can’t be banningiana, which begins with a yellow cap that often become brown on the center. The absence of orange felted material on the stem makes me hesitate in assigning this collection to jacksonii.
