Notes: lichenicolous?; on steep north face of granite cliff; thallus thick dark chocolate brown, convex, just like Buellia badia; apothecia black, adnate, with persistent black rims; epihymenium green, POL- becoming vivid green in K; amphithecium coarsely POL+ clearing in K, with algae; asci lecanora-type; spores 8 per ascus, oblong-ellipsoid, ±13x4.5um; medulla K- C- KC- UV±

This would seem to match Carbonea assimilis more closely than that observation.
