This seems to agree with my own recent application of the name Lactarius croceus, no change to yellow observed.
In SE Ohio where this is a common species even in dry conditions I have not observed the change to yellow. I do not see this Lactarius in NE Ohio or NW Pa.
Does your croceus material usually exude enough latex to observe the white-to-yellow change?
