Observation 211203: Boletus vermiculosus Peck
When: 2015-07-21
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Grassy/mossy area with oak.

The KOH reaction on the cap surface (third photo) seems to show a vinaceous component. But the rich dark color may also be described as mahogany red. These are the color differences respectively put forth for B. vermiculosus and B. vermiculosoides in BRB. Ammonia reaction on larger cap (4th photo) is not much different. Last photo sows both KOH and ammonia on the stipe context. Orange reaction on the right side is KOH.

Both KOH and ammonia caused blued cap context to turn pale orange.
