Thank you for your comment and suggesting Leuchtmann’s monograph. We checked the Leuchtmann’s monograph of Heterospheria and concluded that our collection does not belong to that genus. We asked Prof. Hans-Otto Baral who suggested the genus Spilopodia instead. However, the collection was old and consisted of only a few dead fruiting bodies. We keep this observation as Spilopodia sp., just a reminder that we should search for live material in future. O.&A.C.
this is most probably a Heterosphaeria species, not a Pyrenopeziza. Usually those are determined Heterosphaeria patella, but you need to check with the monograph of LEUCHTMANN, as there are other similar species.
This mixing up Heterosphaeria and Pyrenopeziza has a long tradition, beginning with the type species of Pyrenopeziza, which is Peziza chailetii, being in fact a Heterosphaeria and thus making Pyrenopeziza a synonym of Heterosphaeria ….
