on the ground in Picea glauca/Populus woods.
cap convex, smooth, red, 1.5 cm wide
gills pinkish-white, adnate, unequal
spore print appears to be white, maybe pinkish
no sign of a ring
stalk white, smooth, somewhat thicker towards the base, 3 cm long

It doesn’t look like that to me.

Gymnopus dryophilus is common in the area but it looks different to me. This “thing” had a cap that is redder, the stipe is whiter and the gills look different.
