Observation 21175: Entoloma hochstetteri (Reichardt) G. Stev.
When: 2009-05-18
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Clive Shirley took me to a couple of spots north of Auckland and on the way I mentioned that I wanted to see a blue entoloma. He said that the spot he was taking me to had lots of them, just not the deep blue ones. We did see lots (over 100)
But… They weren’t BLUE. (Most of them had a nice silver-blue color)

So, he took me to another spot that he had seen the blue blue ones. It was after 4:00pm when we went into the woods, almost too dark to see anything and to top it off it started to rain. The first patch had none that we could see, (it was dark…) he suggested that we try another spot further down the track. So wet and discouraged I keep going. And then BLUE! I found a single fruiting body with a deep blue color. I was cold and wet to the core but none of this mattered, I had seen the blue entoloma.
