due to its consistently more slender form, it is a good DNA match to the more robust forms of novinupta and their sequences on Genbank.
Huck has poor soils, and this might be reflected in the sizes of some of these amanitas. Or not.
Rob Powers did all of the playing with sequence and matching it up work. I have his analysis if you want to see it, Rod.
Whether this form was an exact match to novinupta has been a niggling question for years, ever since Jan Lindgren asked me if I was sure that it was actually the same species. Up to the point of her question, I was!
Nice to have the DNA confirmation to my hunch. Ya just can’t always tell ’em in hand.
