Observation 212120: Arthopyrenia punctiformis (Pers.) A. Massal.

No herbarium specimen

Notes: Here are some features of this specimen:
- Growing on a branch of a small Olea europaea;
- Thallus orangish with perithecia of more or less circular form, almost resembling apothecia, equipped with a lateral spreading involucrellum mixed with bark cells at periphery;
- Asci of a very peculiar shape – obpyriform – with a broad ocular chambre and a small apical beak (average dimensions of ~ 40 × 22 um), having more than 4 spores and some with 8 spores;
- Spores hialine without any apparent sepation when young, later becoming 1-septate and slightly constricted at the septum with 2 guttules at each part; some seeming to have 3 septa but without any constriction at secundary septa; dimensions:
(16.8) 18.5 – 21.9 (22.5) x (5.9) 6 – 7.1 (7.3) µm
Q = (2.5) 2.7 – 3.4 (3.8) ; N = 21
Me = 20.1 × 6.7 µm ; Qe = 3
