Observation 212491: Sparassis spathulata (Schwein.) Fr.
When: 2015-08-11
No herbarium specimen

Notes:
OK, is it S. spathulata or crispa, or something else?
This has basal branches that in turn arise from a large underground “root” (S. crispa). But the branches are long and flattened (S. spathulata), and not zonate. (From Michael Kuo ).

Growing at the base of a living oak tree.
