Recognized by sight: 4 cm. velvety yellow brown mottled cap, white then yellowish angular pores, yellow brown tubes, scurfy brown stem that is white at the apex and base, white context that reddens at the top of the stem, mild taste, on ground in mixed woods: pine, hemlock, balsam fir, beech, oak, maple
Based on chemical features: KOH red on cap, FeSO4 green on cap, Ammonia reddish on cap
