points away from L. trivialis but I am not sure that is a great diagnostic feature.

The lack of staining on the gills…

initially led me away from argillaceifolius. But Champignons du Quebec says the gills of argillaceifolius stain with age. Sounds like perhaps an occasionally unreliable trait for this type.
