Observation 213261: Heliocybe sulcata (Berk.) Redhead & Ginns
When: 2015-08-18
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Growing on dead wood; likely Dodonaea viscosa. Fire recently went through area, not sure if this accounts for strange color discrepancy in some of fruit-bodies.

but it was my first time seeing it. In “Mushrooms of Hawai’i” it is described from higher elevation habitat on a different substrate (Myoporum sandwicense), and I rarely spend time in those areas. They would see a little more moisture than where I found it (though still xeric), and perhaps it is more common there. My find was appx. 2,000 feet ~10" rain/yr.

nice find
