all along the east coast. it’s too common to not be among the 350-some-odd results from Quercus rubra in the USDA Fungus Host Database (http://nt.ars-grin.gov/...). Many can be ruled out automatically. Many can not. Those which are listed as occurring on leaves (excluding Gnomonia sp. which is expressly listed as occurring on living leaves) are the following:

Actinopelte dryina – (Tubakia dryina)
Gloeosporium quercinum
Monochaetia desmazieri – (Monochaetia monochaeta)
Coccomyces farlowii
Coccomyces tumidus

which is not at all to say a given entry for which no plant part is indicated is not known from dead leaves…
