Observation 213364: Hypomyces (Fr.) Tul. & C. Tul.
When: 2015-08-12
No herbarium specimen

Notes: May be Hypomyces (species unknown) growing on every conk that is fruiting from a decayed log in Oak-Hickory forest. The white growth on the polypores turned a taupe color (pinkish/light-brown) overnight on both the fertile and non-fertile surfaces of the specimens I brought home — see last two images. I don’t know if there is a host-specific species of Hypomyces which fruits only on woody, shelf polypores.
