Observation 214111: Pholiota alnicola (Fr.) Singer

Notes: These appeared to be growing from soil; the soil was vertical (edge of a creek) and there was a rotten log right there.

Taste mild, not bitter, “contrary to the concept formed by some mycologists” [Trudell & Ammirati]. Odor unpleasant, contrary to T&A (“Some collections exhibit a fragrant odor, …, while others have no distinct odor”).

Spores 7.5-8.5 × 4.5-5.

The last picture is from a location ~1km away. The microscopy looks the same.
