Observation 214217: Volvariella nigrodisca

Specimen available

Habitat: terrestrial in hardwoods including red maple, oaks, black locust.
Cap: diameter 2.5 cm, radially fibrillose and hairy, margin lined, dark greenish-gray over disc, gray rapidly paling toward the margin.
Gills: free, crowded, one rank of lamellulae.
Stipe: length 4 cm, width 3 mm max. Glabrous. White. Hollow or loosely stuffed (not dissected). Expanding gradually downward to a slight bulb.
Volva: pale gray exterior, no evident hairs, height of remaining tissue 5 mm max.
Smell: not distinctive.
Spore print: salmon
