Observation 21455: Bunodophoron melanocarpum (Sw.) Wedin
When: 2009-05-30
No herbarium specimen

Notes: I found this a couple of times in the rain forest of the west coast of Vancouver island, growing on Western Red Cedar, Thuja plicata, less than a kilometer from the Pacific ocean. The black mazedium will make future id easier.

I had no idea they were in North America; I thought it was all Sphaerophorus up here (mazaedia are in enclosed balls instead of opening on the underside of the branch tips). Very exciting.
