Strong smell like cleaning fluid / ammonia. Instant yellow staining.

but they do make FAIRLY regular appearances in the redwood grove at UCBG. These and the currently abundant Amanita phalloides seem to be the harbingers of the fall mushroom season, at least at the bot garden.
