Notes: Tan to buff colored chanterelles found in stand of mostly white pine (Pinus strobus) in wilderness area of NW Wisconsin. Population of more typical (for this area) yellow chanterelles nearby, presumably Cantharellus roseocanus. Typical looking C ignicolor also found abundantly in same forest (but not in close proximity). I have never seen any sort of tan colored chanterelle like that in the Midwest previously. Conditions were very favorable for mushrooms (moderate temps, abundant moisture and humidity). The spot is heavily shaded from fairly mature trees, so fading due to extreme sunlight seems unlikely.
