I thought these were puffballs at first, but gills are visible in the one I cut open. Growing from a hardwood log under a low canopy of dense vegetation.

The structure suggests a mushroom with a universal veil, rather than an “aborted” E. abortivum

Doesn’t look like any Entoloma abortivum that I have seen in photos, otherwise that would be my first guess.
