Notes: Collected from redwood forest on trails near the Performing Arts Center off Old State Highway and Gualala Road.

2 specimens collected from the ground, on twigs of either redwood or pine.

Thallus grey above, black below except for uniformly brown lobe tips (see photo), with long black cilia up to 2mm on lobe margins. Soredia marginal. Need to confirm chemistry. [EDIT: See comment.]

Growing with Hypogymnia tubulosa (observation 215578) and Usnea sp.

Thallus upper cortex K+Y immediately, C-, KC- (stays yellow from initial K+ reaction).

Medulla K+Y, with a slow and slight change to orangish over several minutes. C-, KC-.

Also, thallus underside uniformly brown on lobe tips.

P. arnoldii should have K- medulla and different color on underside of lobes.
