When: 2015-09-06

Collection location: Lake John, Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]

Who: Dave W (Dave W)

No specimen available

Very interesting habitat for this mushroom. Shady area with mainly beech trees, some maple, some cherry. Lots of saplings, mostly beech. Possibly a few birch saplings mixed in, but if so I didn’t see them. Nearest conifer small hemlock 100 feet away.

Staining on cut stipe context… base quickly greenish-blue, upper stipe pink/red within 2 minutes. This is the most prominent staining on Leccinum context that In have seen so far this year.

Brown stain on pores developing within 30 minutes.

Material was quite fragile/brittle, probably due to extremely dry conditions.
