A few nice looking (imo) G. curtisii specimens found mostly under shrubbery but i believe attached to a large root system of decaying hardwood. Its difficult to place these to which hardwood but the large majority of G. curtisii i’ve found have been under / near white oak.
Another common theme i’ve noticed is that while they may be in shady / wooded area all G.Curtisii (that I have come across) get some full sun throughout the day. They are not heavy-shade mushrooms.
