The limbate bulb (two flappy limbs of volva showing on the bulb)…

would limit this species to subsection Limbatulae in sect. Lepidella.

This is a relatively small subsection into which a diverse number of species have been placed based on somewhat similar moprhology. At least they all have a more or less thin outer layer of the volva that holds together rather well because of its containing plentiful hyphae. Sometimes there is a clear inner (powdery) layer that is left on the cap.

My first try would be to identify this material as one of the southeastern U.S. taxa in the Limbatulae.
