shelf fungus growing on a dead log in a mixed forest. please note what appears to be branched gills on the underside.

I do not have enough knowledge to tell these two proposed names from one another.

Pores Not gills

I am told these are not gills but pores. On closer examination of the underside I do see areas that are definitely more pore like. This bruises brown as Daedaleopsis confragosa does.
