Observation 217576: Hericium abietis (Weir ex Hubert) K.A. Harrison

When: 2015-09-25

Collection location: Cascades along Highway 12, Washington, USA [Click for map]

Who: Drew Henderson (Hendre17)

No specimen available

Found along what we’ve been calling Hericium highway for the last few seasons. Many spruce hemlock and Doug fir are both cut to control widow makers and blown over by wind each season. Every season we find return fruiting in many locations and multiple new ones by mid October. These are young and we only harvested a few mature collections this day.

Elevation: 4500ft.

Temp: low 40’s.

©DREW HENDERSON. Fruiting from a split spruce. Many windy weeks last winter were a boon for multiple fruitings here this season.
