Many individual fruit bodies scattered over a large area of this Oak-hickory forest, growing from woody debris deep beneath the thick layer of leaf litter. Caps: about 7 mm. to 1 cm., orange darkening to brownish orange with age. Stems: average 6.5 cm X 1 mm., reddish-brown, nearly black, tough, hairy.
