Observation 218083: Echinoderma asperum (Pers.) Bon
When: 2015-10-02
No herbarium specimen

Notes: A single past-its-prime fruit body in leaf litter and woody debris in Oak-Hickory forest. Cap 6 cm. densely covered with orangish-brown hairs that have formed into dark brown/black sharp scales over a whitish background. Stem: 5.5 cm. with persistent ring. Pungent, rather unpleasant odor. Surprisingly, I was able to obtain a white spore print from this aged specimen.
