Observation 21813: Amanita Pers.
When: 2009-06-06
No herbarium specimen

Notes: This was my only Amanita encounter of the day. I was thinking something from A. vaginata group, but the annulus rules that out.

Hi Rod,

I did not see a complete bulb (I’ll do better next time), but you can see some volva remnants at the base of the small one. The first mushroom was very old and fell apart when I picked it. I did not notice any browning or reddening reaction.

Did you see a complete bulb?

Hi, Dan.

Did you see a complete bulb? This looks like a staining taxon from Amanita sect. Validae. If its as large is it looks in the second image, then I’d suggest either A. brunnescens or something in the rubescens “group.”

Very best,

Rod
