Observation 218789: Tricholoma caligatum group

When: 2015-10-13

Collection location: Harriman State Park, Rockland Co., New York, USA [Click for map]

Who: Rob (gourmand)

No specimen available

I was hoping these were matsutake, but they don’t seem quite right. They were growing in an area of mixed hardwoods and hemlock. They had a unique smell, but I would describe more as “subtle” than anything as distinct as is normally applied to matsutake. Also, they were growing in a group.
