Habitat: conifer forest, without manzanita
Nearest tree: probably Hemlock
Staining: When stem is cut, top of stem turns irregularly purplish-grey
Lat/Lon from iPhone
Looks like L. manzanitae, but no manzanita here. This happens a lot in western Oregon. So perhaps (a) yet-unrecognized species, or (b) L. manzanitae is not associated uniquely with manzanita family.
