Observation 220037: Entoloma Fr. ex P. Kumm.
When: 2015-06-03
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Collected with Bharati Mandapati on the slope across from the station. In five years of collecting at this very spot, neither of us had seen anything like it before.

The fruting bodies were small, not more 2cm tall or wide, cap (and stipe?) surfaces distinctly hairy, as in Pouzarella. Pileus margins are exaggeratedly wavy, in some areas so much as to expose the lamellae from above.

No field photographs exist. Only these shots under the dissecting scope and a 600x look at the spores. Fingers crossed that Bharati saved the collection!

Substrate: on well-decomposed, decorticate, partially burnt wood

Habitat: mixed mountain conifer forest

Ecoregion: Sierra Nevada Forests

Collected for the 2015 SFSU Spring Fungi of the Sierra Nevada Field Un-Course
