When: 2015-10-18

Collection location: Wells Mills County Park, Ocean Co., New Jersey, USA [Click for map]

Who: I. G. Safonov (IGSafonov)

Specimen available

> Three big, hefty and clunky specimens growing in sandy soil
> Stems half-immersed into the substrate and apparently not attached to buried wood
> Flesh hard and not staining
> Odor unpleasant/disagreeable (spermatic?)
> Gills shallow and widely-spaced, especially in the older specimen; they appear decurrent, but it’s an illusion caused by the funnel-shaped caps — see pix
> Spores looked oval-shaped and boring under 400x in KOH
> Specimens collected by J. L. Smithson at NJMA foray in this park
> The material is in the hand of J. & N. Burghardt
